Siri AI Arrives in iOS 27: Apple’s Biggest Assistant Overhaul Ever Explained

Apple just made its biggest bet yet on artificial intelligence. At its WWDC 2026 keynote, the company unveiled Siri AI in iOS 27, a sweeping overhaul of an assistant that had fallen behind its rivals.

The biggest Siri update ever

Apple framed this as a turning point for its voice assistant. The highlight of the show was a new version of Siri that lives across all of Apple’s platforms to perform complex actions, from knowing what you are looking at on your phone to automating tasks across different apps. Apple called it the biggest update to the assistant since Siri launched over a decade ago. The new Siri is built to be more capable and more natural. Siri will be more conversational, detailed, and engaging, powered by Google’s Gemini model. Yahoo Finance

How you’ll use it

The way you interact with Siri is changing too. The assistant becomes more central to the iPhone experience.

You can still use the “Hey Siri” wake word or the power button, but in iOS 27, swiping down from the middle of the screen brings up a Siri AI interface. The update reflects a broader industry shift toward AI assistants that you converse with rather than issue rigid commands to. Apple Intelligence got upgrades as well. The naming and the lineup

Apple kept its calendar-based naming scheme. The new software is called iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, tvOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27, with updates across iPhone, iPad, Mac, smartwatch, set-top box, and Vision Pro.

The assistant reaches across devices. watchOS 27 gets the same Siri AI overhaul, bringing context-aware, multi-turn conversations and a standalone Siri app to the watch.

Not everyone gets the new features, and that is the part worth reading carefully. The hardware requirements are strict.

Siri AI and Apple Intelligence in iOS 27 require an iPhone 16 or later, or an iPhone 15 Pro, along with specific iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch models. On the watch side, Apple dropped support for six older models, requiring at least an Apple Watch Series 9 or newer.

There is a regional catch as well. Siri AI will not be available in the EU on iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, at least not initially. Fortune

When you can get it

The rollout follows Apple’s usual schedule. Developer betas are available now, with the software arriving for everyone on supported devices this fall.

For Apple users, the message is clear. If your device qualifies, a dramatically smarter Siri is on the way. If it does not, this may be the update that finally nudges you toward a new phone.
