June 2026 Android Drop: Fake Call Detection, AirDrop Sharing, and an AI Wardrobe

Google’s monthly feature rollouts have become a reliable way for Android phones to gain new capabilities without waiting for a full operating-system upgrade, and the June 2026 edition is one of the most feature-packed yet, with a notable emphasis on security and cross-platform sharing.

The headline addition tackles a growing scam tactic. The Phone by Google app is gaining fake call detection, powered by encrypted RCS, to warn users if a scammer is spoofing a trusted contact’s number. Caller-ID spoofing has become a common vector for fraud, and building detection directly into the dialer addresses it at the point of contact.

The most significant cross-platform change continues the gradual thaw between Android and Apple’s ecosystems. Google’s Quick Share now works with AirDrop on more Android devices, letting users securely send photos, videos, and documents to friends and family regardless of device, and it operates completely offline, with or without an internet connection. Supported devices include Pixel models newer than the Pixel 8a and Samsung’s Galaxy S24, S25, and S26 series, along with recent foldables, with support for Xiaomi, Oppo, Motorola, and Honor devices arriving soon.

AI features feature prominently, too. Circle to Search’s multi-object outfit identification is expanding to all compatible Android 14 phones, and Google Photos is launching a Digital Wardrobe feature. Within Google Play Books, users reading select English titles can tap a “catch me up” button to get a recap, or highlight a passage to ask questions about themes, context, and characters.

Beneath the new features sits an important security update. The June patch fixes a high-severity privilege escalation flaw in the Android Framework that Google noted may have been under limited, targeted exploitation, with the update split across the June 1 and June 5 patch levels and covering Framework, System, and Kernel modules for MediaTek, Qualcomm, and Unisoc chipsets. Looking slightly further ahead, Google is preparing more ambitious agentic capabilities. An auto-browsing option that can carry out tasks like reserving a parking spot is set to begin rolling out at the end of June to select U.S. devices for AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, prompting users for confirmation before any purchase or sensitive action.

As with all phased rollouts, not every feature will appear on every device immediately. Users can check availability under Settings, System, System Update, but taken together, the June drop reflects how the two dominant mobile platforms are quietly becoming more secure and more interoperable.
